Song for Lincolnshire

The Children in Need Song for Lincolnshire took place on Thursday 7th November. The Spalding Ukulele Orchestra won the performance prize, and the overall winner was Andy Lenton with his song In Local Tongue. Both Kim and Phil Biggs flew the flag for Spalding Folk Club but weren't among the medals this time. Regular visitors Ian and Michelle Wright were runners up. The whole show is on BBC Sounds until 7th December
40th birthday

On 1 May the club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a very special club night featuring Jez Lowe. Over 80 people turned up to mark the occasion, including a good number of past and present organisers and committee members. Here they are posing for a photo:

And of course there had to be cake...

On the next evening we followed this up with a great concert from Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman, a first for the club and a fitting mini festival to round off our celebration. Here's to the next 40 years.
Thank you Liz

It's a year for anniversaries. In March we celebrated 20 years with Liz Padgett as secretary, organiser and all-round main woman for Spalding folk club. Her enthusiasm, constant good humour, impeccable taste in bookings and sheer hard work have all contributed towards the success the club currently enjoys. And special mention too for her partner Martin Browne, who has been there for most of those 20 years, providing such reliable support as well as looking after the finances. Here she is with the commemorative plate she was presented with on 6th March:
